A turkey made out of a baby food jar

Gobble, Gobble it’s turkey time! Make this cute turkey craft out of your used baby food jars. A great thing to make with your grandkids or kids that will be the perfect decoration for your table top.

With young grandchildren I always have a surplus of used baby food jars. Doing crafts with them is an easy and fun way to repurpose the jars. This turkey jar looks great anywhere I put it and adds a some festive flare to your home.

WITH THIS PROJECT YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN…

  • What a turkey is
  • What the colors red, burgundy, and yellow are
  • How to paint
  • How to glue things together

GET YOUR HOUSE READY FOR THANKSGIVING WITH THIS TURKEY CRAFT. HERE ARE THE SUPPLIES WE USED FOR IT:

  • Baby food jar (or any jar)
  • Burgundy paint
  • Red paint
  • Yellow paint
  • Feathers
  • Brown construction paper
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Paint brush

The first thing you are going to do is paint your cleaned out baby food jar burgundy. The color burgundy can be a hard for children to learn. If it is easier you can call it red. Let the paint dry.

Jar painted brownish red

After the paint has dried glue on the googly eyes. Then paint on the beak, a little triangle painted out of yellow and a c like shape out of red.

Next you are going to cut out the feather back. Out of brown construction paper cut out a leaf like shape, shown below.

Then you are going to glue down an assortment of feathers to the feather back piece we just cut. The feathers should go in an upside down U shape.

Finally, add the feathers to the back of your turkey jar.

You are now finished your turkey baby food jar!
