Jars that have been painted black and wings have been added to make them look like bats

This kid friendly arts and craft is perfect for Halloween. With these bat jars your house will be ready for Halloween festivities. Not to mention this is a great way to recycle your old baby food jars or any jars that you have lying around the house.

SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEED:

  • 3 empty baby food jars, one small, one medium, one large
  • black craft paint
  • white craft paint
  • glitter paint or loose glitter
  • black construction paper
  • google eyes or plastic gems
  • scissors
  • glue

For this craft the first thing you want to do is take off any labels on your jars. As well as clean out the jars and get ride of any previous residue.

Baby food jars that the labels have been removed from and the jars have been cleaned.

Next you are going to paint the jars black and let them dry completely. This is a good step to get the kids comfortable with painting since they can just go wild and paint all over the jar.

Draw and cut out 3 sets of wings for the bats; small, medium, and large, as shown below. Draw and cut out 3 sets of triangles for ears. Keep in mind that as kids their wings and triangles aren’t going to be perfect. They are still learning. So it might take them a little bit to get the hang of cutting out these different shapes.

Glue the eyes onto the jars, you can use plastic gems like I did or use googly eyes or buttons. After that you are going to paint on a smile with white paint, then paint small upside down triangles for fangs. Next, paint the edges of the wings with glitter paint. Then you can paint the ears completely with glitter paint and add loose glitter. Make sure to glue the wings onto the backs of the jars. As well as glue the ears onto the rim of the jars.
