Pieced together popsicle sticks and felt to create a nativity scene.

Get your home ready for Christmas with this felt and popsicle stick nativity scene. This charming bible craft is the perfect thing to do with your kids or grandkids. Teach them all about the birth of christ while making this hands on art and craft. I loved making this with my grandkids and teaching them all about the nativity while having them make something fun. This nativity scene art and craft will become your new favorite Christmas keepsake!

WITH THIS PROJECT YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN…

  • All about the Nativity and the birth of Christ
  • The colors blue, brown, and cream
  • What popsicle sticks are
  • What felt fabric is

LEARNING ABOUT THE NATIVITY IS FUN WHILE MAKING THIS CRAFT! HERE IS WHAT WE USED TO MAKE THIS FELT AND POPSICLE STICK NATIVITY SCENE:

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Brown paint
  • Blue, brown, and cream felt
  • Gold pip cleaner
  • Pen
  • Glue or hot glue
  • Paint brush

The first thing you are going to do is paint 4 popsicle sticks with streaks of brown paint to make it look like wood. I found that the least amount of paint on the brush works best. You can dab your brush on a paper towel to make the amount of paint on the brush lighter.

A popsicle stick that has been painted with brown paint to look like a piece of wood.

Then you are going to cut one of the four popsicle sticks that you just painted in half. Glue together the three and two halves popsicle sticks into a house-like structure, shown below.

After that you are going to cut the ends off of two popsicle sticks.

Using wood looking popsicle sticks pieced together to make a house looking structure.

Once you are done that you are going to use your two longer popsicle ends to make your Mary and Joseph. Use the blue and brown felt to make clothes for them. Make sure to add eyes as well. Then you are going to glue the ends of the popsicle sticks to the bottom of the nativity structure.

Cut the ends off of a popsicle stick and cut it in half.

Then you are going to do that same technique we did earlier to make the two skinny popsicle stick pieces look like wood. Glue them together in an x shape.

After that take the tip of the popsicle stick from earlier and make your baby Jesus. Cutting the cream felt to the bottom of it to make a blanket for the baby. Add some upside down u’s to make eyes.

Cut up popsicle sticks made to look like wood and an angle.

After that using the other popsicle tip that you cut earlier you are going to make your angel to side on top of the nativity. Use the cream felt to make clothing and wings for your little angel. Then draw some eyes and add a halo made from a gold pipe cleaner.

Wings and a dress was added to the end of cut off popsicle stick to create an angle body.

Finally, you are going to glue your angel to the top of your nativity and your baby Jesus in between Mary and Jospeh.
