WITH THIS PROJECT YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN…

  • What candy corn is
  • What a garland is
  • The colors white, orange, and yellow
  • How to paint using a paint brush
  • How to cut out triangles
  • How to use glue
  • How to apply glitter

SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEED:

  • white paper plate
  • yellow and orange craft paint
  • glitter paint or loose glitter
  • string or yarn
  • scissors
  • tape or glue

The first thing you are going to do is paint the outer rim of the paper plate yellow. The outer rim is also where the ridges are.

Next paint the area below the ridges orange, as shown below. Let dry. Now use a coat of orange glitter craft paint, or brush on glue and sprinkle orange glitter over top of the orange paint. Let dry.

Next, cut the plate in half, then into quarters, as shown. After that cut each quarter in half, to make triangles or “candy corns.”

It’s ok if the triangles are not even. They are kids and might not get cutting perfect triangles. As grandparents or parents it can be hard to try to not “fix” their work. But remember they are still learning and growing so all their work is their own and let it be.

Now use tape or glue to secure each triangle to a long piece of string. Space them apart as you like.

You can make your candy corn garland as long as you want, just paint more paper plates!
