Felt and a styrofoam ball put together to make a melty snowman

Burrrrr! It might be chilly outside but you and your little ones can spend time together inside making this melted snowman craft. He might have melted but he is still cute as a button.

MAKING THIS MELTED SNOWMAN CRAFT WAS A BLAST! HERE IS WHAT WE USED TO MAKE IT:

  • 1 2″ or 3″ styrofoam ball
  • 1 piece of white felt
  • scraps of black felt
  • 3 little black buttons
  • orange pipe cleaner
  • 2 googly eyes
  • 2 little sticks or branches for arms
  • basic craft supplies
making hat of snow man

First let’s make the snowman’s top hat: Cut a piece of black felt 2 1/2″ X 1 1/2″. Either glue or hand sew the 1 1/2″ ends together to form a cylinder as shown in the photo above.

Next cut a circle the size of the whole and glue or hand sew on one end of the top hat. After that cut a second circle for the bottom of the hat about 1/2″ bigger to form the bottom of the top hat and either hand sew or glue to the bottom.

Now glue the hat and 2 googly eyes on the Styro ball to make the snowman’s face. Cut a piece of black felt to make the snowman’s mouth and glue on. Then cut a piece of orange pipe cleaner about 2″ and fold in half. Stick the pipe cleaner into the face to form a “carrot nose.”

Next cut the white piece of felt to look like a puddle of snow.

Finally glue the face and 3 buttons on the puddle of snow. Cut 2 slits on the white felt where you would like the branches to be. Place the branches in the slits and glue in place.

Your melted snowman is now finished and ready to be displayed! I hope you had a great time making this craft with your little ones.
