How to Recycle a Laundry Detergent Lid Into a Pin Cushion for Mom

Mom will love both the fact that you are recycling by using laundry lids, and that you made her a handmade craft for Mother’s day. Mom can keep this handy little handmade pin cushion close by to do all her mending and creating.

HAVE YOUR LITTLE ONES MAKE THIS HOMEMADE PIN CUSHION FOR MOTHER’S DAY! HERE IS WHAT WE USED TO MAKE IT:

  • clean laundry detergent lid
  • styrofoam ball
  • scraps of fabric
  • quilt batting (optional)
  • rick-rack, lace, ribbon for embellishments
  • buttons
  • basic arts & crafts supplies

Homemade Pin Cushion – Step 1

This first step is optional. Cut quilt batting in a circle to go around the styrofoam ball. Either glue or pin the quilt batting and gathering it at the bottom.

Homemade Pin Cushion – Step 2

Now cut a piece of decorative fabric in a circle that will fit around the styrofoam ball. Either glue or pin the fabric around the ball and gather it at the bottom.

Next place the ball in the laundry lid with the top of the lid down. Glue the ball in place.

Have fun decorating the laundry lid. Be creative by using embellishments like; ribbon, lace, rick-rack, buttons, gems, and more.
