These colorful patriotic yarn trees are a great project to make with your friends and family, as they are simple, no sewing necessary! Once finished, they look festive and glistening as a table center piece. It’s a handmade patriotic display which will look great for Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and even Labor Day!

YOUR GRANDKIDS WILL LOVE MAKING THESE PATRIOTIC YARN CONES TO DISPLAY! HERE IS WHAT WE USED TO MAKE THEM:

  • styrofoam cones
  • red, white, and blue yarn
  • small crafting pins
  • glitter stars
  • white milk glass cake plate for display
  • red, white, and blue pinwheel (optional)
  • basic crafting supplies

Patriotic Yarn Cones – Step 1

Start by taking one cone and securing the yarn at the base with a flat head straight pin by putting it through the end of the yarn and wind the yarn around the pin once or twice. Push the pin at the bottom of the cone.

Next wind the yarn around the cone starting at the bottom. Continue to wind it until it covers the entire flat top, adding extra yarn at the top to cover the Styrofoam and make it look like it had a point at the top. Then secured it with another straight pin.

Then continue until all cones are layered with yarn. I poked the stars in the top. They looked so simple and I absolutely adored them. Finally place them all in a dish, (I used my white pedestal cake dish) with some red, white, and blue stars gathered at the bottom.

You could also place a red, white, and blue pinwheel at the top. It looks so beautiful and patriotic. God Bless America! Place this on a paper plate and it could also be the center piece at your picnic table during the patriotic holidays!

You are now finished your patriotic yarn cones and I hope you had a blast making them with your grandkids like I did!
